A historic day in Sports' history, yes, Sports. The first class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame were selected for the new Hall opening next year in Charlotte, NC. This was a highly talked about debate amongst who to let in for the first class. With many great drivers that have come and gone, who do you let in on the first ballot? Surely all of the greats will be let in, but it says something to be elected on first ballot for the first class.
This will be one of the best/worst World Series ever. I start this preview without fully looking at the stats but here's what I do know.
The reason why this is about to be one of the best is because you have two power house offenses going up against each other. Playoffs are about pitching, usually, but fans love runs and big hits. Seven teams this year scored an average of 5+ runs/game. Tampa Bay was the only one of those teams not to make it to theplayoffs but the Yanks/Phils were two of the top 4. Both gave up close to 4.5 runs/game(lower than league average). So if anything, we should expect exciting games, right?
As I walked into Modell’s this morning I can’t say I was amazed at the amount of Yankee merchandise. Certainly the entire city needs to load up on championship gear. Hell, who wants to put on a raggedy nine-year-old t-shirt?
This year’s championship team definitely deserved to win the World Series. Say what you will about the $421 million price tag, this was baseball’s best team all season and proved it by dethroning the defending champs. For once in the wild card era, baseball’s two best teams slugged it out in the World Series.
They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Well what if that old dog’s tricks are working just fine? Enter David Beckham. Beckham is 34 years old, a father, and international superstar. So why continue? Look we can all safely say that his MLS experiment was a failure. Beckham came to the U.S. seeking to change the landscape of soccer. However this was doomed from the start. Americans want goals, crazy shots, fast play, and tricks (A+B Right stick up) that only can be done in video games. That is not Beckham’s game. Beckham throughout his career has been a provider, a setup man.
