Deal with a Devil

On July 1st or sometime before that New Jersey Devils General Manager Lou Lamoriello got on the phone and gave a record breaking offer to an NHL star and the best unrestricted free agent since the lockout.

The player, a member of the Devils organization, Ilya Kovalchuk, was acquired from Atlanta in a near deadline deal last February.  He had been with New Jersey for two months including the week they were spectators in the playoffs.

You know you loved it and you know you missed it, and here’s the 2nd Annual NHL Free Agency running diary!

The draft is in the rear-view mirror and teams now have had time to look at their squads and see what puzzle pieces are missing to take them to the promised land and have them hoisting the Cup at the end of next season.  Steve provided you with a great rundown yesterday of where he thought players will go, and today will hopefully be an exciting one full of moves and signings.

The 2009-2010 NHL Season has come and went.  There are many many memories that stick out in my head but there a few major ones that I’ll focus on.  Later this week early next week look for my free agent preview, where me and my friend will play fortune teller and try to predict what team the free agent is least likely to sign with.  We really try to pick the correct team, but that rarely goes in our favor.

Stanley Cup Thoughts

Marian Hossa and Ben Eager scored 28 seconds apart late in the second period as the Chicago Blackhawks went up 2-0 against the Philadelphia Flyers in the Stanley Cup Finals.

In a game that was very different from the 6-5 scoring deluge in Game 1, the Blackhawks were able to hold off a furious rush at the end from the Flyers to take both at the United Center.

The two teams return to Philadelphia for Game 3 on Wednesday.
