As a casual golf fan, I need Tiger Woods, and now some are claiming that the new Tiger is here in the form of Rory McIlroy. I guess you can't blame them considering he dominated the U.S. Open unlike anyone since... Tiger Woods. He is young like Tiger once was and just took control after falling so far at the Masters. But is he Tiger Woods?

The past two weekends have featured two different sports on their grandest stages, but a closer look would suggest that the Masters and the Final Four resembled something more similar than one would expect. As if we didn't see enough mediocrity in the Final Four with neither #1 nor #2 seeds making the tournament, we made it to the back 9 during the Master's on Sunday with it being anyone's guess as to who would win.

I don’t really understand Tiger Woods’ latest effort to hide his narcissistic life patterns. He came out with an op-ed piece about how he has changed etc. Yawn! Boring and transparent; At least he didn’t do it in an hour long speech with Jim Gray. The only way this could be better is if we played a little Mad Libs, the classic childhood game where any story can be transformed into a magical adventure. I filled in the blanks.

Tiger Woods came out strong this past weekend in New Jersey and fell off the lead quickly. He regained his putter on Sunday but still came up short as far as the victory goes. But what Tiger was able to accomplish was to qualify for the next round of the FedEx Cup in Boston this weekend, and in doing so, maybe saved the PGA for another week.

A story on golf not involving Tiger Woods? And it has the sports' world buzzing? In a sport where fans can call in rules violations and there are only out of bounds if you can't hit your ball, the rules have come into play in this past weekend's PGA Championship. Dustin Johnson hit his first shot far right into the crowd and approached the ball. Set his club, took a practice swing, and then eventually hit the ball. PGA ruled it a 2-stroke violation, thus costing him a chance at the championship.

I'm not the biggest golf fan. I'll watch it occasionally, but I am more apt to watch it if Tiger is playing. Why else would I be writing about golf right now if it were not for Tiger? Just look at the numbers, I wasn't the only one rooting for him, although I may be one of the few willing to admit it.
Final round coverage of the Masters was up 36% compared to last year's. Sure, it is the Tiger factor in which no matter what event it is, if Tiger is close, more people will watch. Ok great, but it was the 3rd highest overnight rating in golf history. Again, maybe it was because it was the Masters and people were eager to see Phil win?
