Missing Expectations

Each season, two teams, one from each conference, have the ultimate expectations of winning the Stanley Cup.  However, as the National Hockey League prepares for its Stanley Cup Finals, these two teams will once again be playing golf instead of hockey in June.  The two teams: The Washington Capitals and the San Jose Sharks, have been headaches for their management, heart-attacks for its fans, and choke artists to the rest of the eyes around the league.  They’ve lacked the right kind of character, a quality goaltender, coaching, you name it.  They have tried to change everything except the kitchen sink in both cities, and will need another year to get a Stanley Cup.  However, after watching both teams fall short this playoff year, one team is clearly closer than the other.

Things We Learned from Eastern Quarterfinals

Washington in five over the New York Rangers.

No surprise here as the Capitals proved to be the better offensive team scoring more goals in the key moments of the game.  From Alexander Semin to Jason Chimera the Capitals owned overtime.  Also, unlike previous years, they didn’t fold when playing from behind, which was clearly explained when they scored 4 unanswered goals in game 4 after being down 3-0 after two periods.

A Disaster in New Jersey

This is not what owner Jeff VanderBeek had in mind.  This is not what Lou Lamoriello had in mind.  This is not what Ilya Kovalchuk had in mind.

Through a third of the season the New Jersey Devils are 8-19-2 with 18 points (out of a possible 56).  They sit 14th out of 15 teams in the Eastern Conference, with only the AHL Islanders behind them.  They’re currently 18 points behind the Tampa Bay Lightning and Boston Bruins, who currently hold the last playoff spot.

I don't know this kid enough to talk to his minor league career but Linus Omark is the man. Anyone who comes out and does this for his first game in great in my book.
