This is getting to be absurd. Another week and I'm defending the Steelers? This time on the heels of a devastating blow from Ravens LB Jameel McClain to Steelers TE Heath Miller. This hit warranted a $40,000 fine. What is the point, honestly?
If it was James Harrison he would probably be suspended for the rest of the season. If Peyton Manning or dare I say, Tom Brady, got hit like this, the NFL might stop. It's just a fact of the NFL. Some players, and teams, get special treatment. Heath Miller was basically decapitated and the NFL simply slaps McClain on the wrist.
Give me a break. I'm against fining for hits in general but I figured this hit was obviously intentional.
At what point does a player get suspended for a hit? What's even worse, depending how you look at this, is that there was no flag on the field. So, there was no penalty for this intentional hit, but a fine. Probably the dumbest thing in sports is the NFL's policy against late hits or whatever it is. Even worse than the NBA's technical foul calls for showing emotion.
But Brian Cook got suspended 2 games for this hit:
