NBA Power Rankings Week 5

Shuffle in the rankings this week for Pat. At least one team finally dropped.

1. Spurs (14-2) Last week - 3: The 12 game winning streak came to an end vs. the #2 team in the rankings, but the veterans are finding ways to get it done without huge contributions from their leader, Mr. Duncan.

2. Mavericks (12-4) Last week - 7: A huge week for Dallas (4-0) with wins in OKC, San Antonio, and at home against the Heat. Dirk Nowitzki is the early front runner for MVP.

3. Magic (12-4) Last week - 5: I'll give them the slight edge over Boston because of their revenge win over the Heat. Even though they are third in the power rankings, they are still a player away from being a championship contender.

4. Celtics (12-4) Last Week - 6: Rondo is back, but they lost a valuable bench player in Delonte West. Portland and Chicago at home this week will be a nice challenge for the veteran Celtics.

5. Jazz (13-5) Last Week - 9: Wins at home against New Orleans and the Lakers move the Jazz back into the top 5. This team could make their lives a whole lot easier if they stopped falling behind in every game.

6. Lakers (13-4) Last Week - 2: The Lakers could really use Bynum back to help limit some of the minutes Gasol has had to play. This veteran crew will turn it on when they have too.

7. Thunder (11-6) Last Week - 4: I'll leave the Thunder here for now, but they need Durant to shoot the ball better from the field if they want to compete all season long. Getting Jeff Green back healthy helps, but this is Durant's squad.

8. Hornets (12-4) Last Week - 1: They were due for a bad week. Three big games starting tonight in OKC, then home vs. the red hot Knicks, and at San Antonio to close this week will have a say as to where this team is next week.

9. Nuggets (10-6) Last Week - NR: Four straight wins pushes the Nuggets back into the top 10. They will hold onto Carmelo for as long as they can in hopes that they can convince him to stay. It won't happen.

10. Bulls (9-6) Last Week - 8: This team continues to hover around the top 10, and will probably have to wait for Carlos Boozer's return to make a run toward the top 5.
