That was Dumb

While a lot of teams are rejoicing, Boston Celtics fans are wondering what just happened as they saw Kendrick Perkins and Nate Robinson shipped out the door for essentially nothing in return. Let me take you to the scene right after Game 7 of the NBA Finals last year against the Los Angeles Lakers when Doc Rivers said something to the extent that there was a certain starting five that has never lost a series and how he was looking forward to next year. Of course he was referring to Kendrick Perkins' absence in Game 7, but now they will most certainly be without Perkins come this year's playoffs.

doc_rivers_finalsI don't understand the deal. To break it down, all season long fans and ownership commented about the return of Kendrick Perkins and how it would be a huge boost to the team. Players looked forward to his return as well. The guy brings Tommy Heinsohn-like energy to the court, screaming after every single foul. But for a team that is 29th in the NBA in rebounding, they took the good with the bad.

Let me repeat that; the Celtics are 29th in the league in rebounding. So it only makes sense that they ship off their top rebounder right? Well in return they get... Nenad Krstic? Do I really need to explain that he is a poor-man's Semih Erden? Well you can't have to Semih's on one team so they moved the original Erden. So now they have Shaq & Jermaine O'Neal rebounding when in fact they should have their own TV show instead, along side Glen Davis, Kevin Garnett and Kristic. Well, if that doesn't spell power on the boards, I don't know what will. They also moved out Luke Harangody so now the power is really gone.

Perkins, Harangody, and Erden were three of the top six in rebounding per 36 minutes on the Celtics. Paul Pierce averages more rebounds per 36 minutes than Nenad Krstic.

So they also move out Nate Robinson because Delonte West is back. Well that's great, Delonte sucks. Nate was the life of the bench and had a great following. He could spark a rally with a big shot or a key steal, but I guess he had to go too?

The only thing the Celtics did righ was find a sucker in Sacramento to take Marquis Daniels contract, and actually pay the Celtics for taking it. With every Salary Cap there is a Salary Floor, and Sacramento needed a salary to meet that floor.

In return the Celtics got a bench player in Jeff Green. He is a SF / under-sized PF. His defense and rebounding are horrible and he shoots threes a lot more than he should. Because the Celtics needed that? I already taked about Nenad Krstic, he's me but 4 inches taller. He is trash.

This day of trades is so odd. The Celtics got much worse than they were 12 hours ago. They will look to bring on Troy Murphy? For what reason? I don't care if Perkins was a free agent at the end of the season, since when is this Red Sox nation? Since when do the Celtics need to find value in players leaving? I don't care if the Celtics have 4 all-stars playing on the team, because now they are no better than the Heat. We all hated on the Heat for having no depth, well at least they had a full roster. The Celtics can't even claim that.

I am sitting patiently by my phone waiting for the Celtics to offer me a contract, because they need a good white guy and Nenad is pure Nads. These trades were horrible to say the least. Are they trying to prove something and ship off players like the Patriots? It's not like they were facing salary issues coming into Thursday, so why dump all the salary and open up two roster spots? Put me in Coach!
