Is Los Angeles Lakers' head coach Phil Jackson serious with his comments regarding Andrew Bynum's suspension? Bynum was suspended two games for his hit to Michael Beasley on Friday as Beasley went up to the basket. Bynum's foul was more of an NFL hit than an NBA move. If anything he got off easily, and now Phil Jackson is questioning it?
"I feel badly ... for the team, for the fans," said Lakers head coach Phil Jackson prior to the Lakers' game against Portland on Sunday night. "That's a subjective thing. I don't know how they judge it. Beasley played [Sunday], it's not like he missed a game because of it. I understand the reasoning behind it, but the penalties, I don't understand [those] yet."
The hit was a mid-air collision with Bynum's shoulder leading the way. According to Jackson, since Beasley was not seriously injured, Bynum shouldn't miss a game. What kind of world does Jackson live in? The clear intent was to cause damage to Beasley going to the hoop, and it just so happened that Bynum was unsuccessful.
What does Jackson understand the reasoning behind? Because he immediately follows up with the notion that he doesn't undestand the penalty? Was he drunk when he did this interview or am I still drunk from this weekend, trying to read this nonsense?
Meanwhile, Kobe supports all of this. No he doesn't care about the suspension, but he said that Bynum "earned his stripes". This coming from a rapist. And this isn't Bynum's first time getting a Flagrant 2 foul against him. In fact, in 2009 he fractured Gerald Wallace's rib on a hit, but did not receive suspension. So this suspension is only 2 years late.
Overall, Jackson needs to sit down and talk with David Stern about this. I'm not always a fan of the Iron Fist, but clearly a hit of this magnitude warrants a suspension and Jackson's asinine comments need to be seriously evaluated as to the type of coach Phil Jackson really is.
