Every year, 'experts' say how the fans shouldn't vote because it is always a popularity contest when it comes to All-Star games and how the fans always screw up a few names and how ultimately that leads to All-Star snubs. Well, I'm here to congratulate the fans, not for their selections, but rather for their omittances. Often we don't give fans enough credit, but I'd like to congratulate them for avoiding picking two players.
I am not refering to Albert Pujols or Ichiro, rather I am refering to Jason Bay and JD Drew. I am happy to see that neither Bay nor Drew came in the top nine for voting on their respective teams. I will start with Jason Bay. You think that there would be enough idoits in New York to vote Jason Bay onto the team or give him credit for batting .248, with 4 HR, and 23 RBI. Bay, a three-time All-Star, has played just 58 games thus far, but we've seen fans dismiss that fact just to see their favorite players. I must say, well done on leaving this bum off the roster. I couldn't find his final vote total but it Bay received less than 1 million votes. Hell, Martin Prado received more votes than he did.
Sadly, there are more idiot fans, presumably in Boston. JD Drew came in 10th for the voting in the AL outfield with over 1.4 million votes. Drew is batting .231, 4 HR, 18 RBI while playing in 66 games. Seriously, congrats to those 1.4 million idiots who spent time voting for Drew, while Matt Joyce only got 1.2 million. Fortunately, the entire MLB fan base isn't that dumb to vote for Drew, and thus, they should receive acknowledgement. The fans got it right.
It would have been a travesty to see either or both of these players in the game and the fans made it clear that they did not want to see either in the game. So while we talk about snubs, I want to talk about the fans being right, again. Year in and year out it happens where scrub players get to join the year's best and this year the fans did that by putting Drew and Bay together with Pujols and Ichiro, on the bench.
Bravo.
