Not only is the SOS Back up, but one of baseball's best ever is coming back, too!

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming – hating the Yankees
Last Wednesday night was a unique night for baseball for a lot of reasons – not the least of which was the absolutely wild and unprecedented way the season ended. But, in an interesting twist, fan bases were forced into a situation where they'd be cheering for bitter rivals and old foes. Red Sox fans pulled for the Yankees, Yankees pulled for the Orioles and a Scott Proctor meltdown.

Boston Red Sox fans, stop me if you've seen this before. Baseball team is up 9.0 games in the AL East in September. Team proceeds to lose 15 of their last 18 games, six of which were by 10 runs or more. The offense sputters during the last week of the season, scoring just over 2 runs a game and going into the last few games of the year, it is down to a 2.5 game lead with the last three games versus Baltimore.

The trade talks are heavy this time of year in the Majors with Carlos Beltran leading the way. Beltran is having a solid year with 14 HR and 59 RBI while batting .293. Impressive numbers for any Mets player, aside from Jose Reyes. The Mets have their financial issue of their own to deal with so if they can find a way to dump even $1 of salary and get something in return they will gladly do it. It's not as if they were thinking they could win this year or anytime thereafter, right?

Derek Jeter is about to enter a club of gentlemen with the likes of Ty Cobb, Hank Aaron, and Pete Rose. He closes in on 3,000 hits for his career and one would assume that he, if not already, would lock in his Hall of Fame credentials. Is the 3000 hit club what it used to be, though? We have automatically dismissed that 500 HR gets you into the Hall, so why should 3,000 hits be anything different?

This weekend both college and professional baseball players were on display. The fact is, some of these college players could step up and play big league ball right now. The only difference between some of the players is the type of bat they use. Check out these two feats from the weekend. Which is more impressive?

MLB is on the edge of changing the game again. They are planning on making the playoffs 10 teams versus the eight that it currently has, and now there is talk of realignment, something that hasn't happened since 1998. The talk is to move an NL team to the AL and create two 15-team leagues. Not a bad idea, but here's what I've got.

Jose Bautista is doing something for the Toronto Blue Jays that maybe we've never seen before, and it is about time we start paying attention to him. We know that he hit 54 homeruns last year, but with three more homeruns on Sunday, he already has 16 this year, and since the beginning of last year, Jose Bautista has 70 total, 21 more than the next player over that same span.
