NCAA is a Joke

My title sums it up neatly. I don't write about college football because I find most of college football to be a joke. Joke in regards to something that is ridiculous and not to be taken seriously. It always comes down to the rich getting richer and recently, to save face, it has come down to punishment by fire.... in some cases. I can't keep up anymore with the suspensions, fines, probation, and whatever else the NCAA deems worthy for offenses. The fact that no two cases are compared, is absurd, and then there is the case of Etienne Sabino of Ohio State.
Big Least... How it Started

The Big East started in 1979 with a vision focused around basketball. Providence, St. John's, Syracuse, Seton Hall, Georgetown, UConn, and Boston College, started the conference focusing on solely hoops, while Holy Cross and Rutgers denied at first. It wasn't until 1991 that the conference expanded to a football conference. 1979 was ironically, the first year in which ESPN began broadcasting. Tied together at inception, it is only inevitable that one be the demise of the other.

In wake of the Jim Tressel “expose” into his improprieties and blissful ignorance, the chatter cycle for changing the NCAA profit system will once again be drummed up. Rightfully so, many big time college athletes are viewed as de facto slaves for the monster of BCS Athletics. We’ve known about this for some time with scandals at high-profile programs such as Michigan and USC. The beat goes on.

I don't typically write about college football since I'm not the most avid follower and for the fact that it is more corrupt than the Somalian government, but Andrew Luck staying in college warranted my two cents on the falling muscle that is the NFL.

#12 Missouri (10-2) vs. Iowa (7-5)
Insight Bowl (TEMPE, AZ) 10:00pm ESPN
Shouldn’t Iowa be the ranked team here? Coming into this season they were one of my favorites to make a BCS bowl game returning much of their offense and defensive players. Something has not clicked with this team from the beginning and they have had some head scratching losses especially in the final game of the regular season to Minnesota who finished the season 3-9. Iowa has lost their last 3 of 4 and their win against Indiana was on a 52 yard touchdown pass with 2 minutes to play. Missouri comes in having a slightly better defense than Iowa (surprisingly enough) and are the nationally ranked team. Missouri has had some very nice wins against Illinois, San Diego State, Miami (OH), Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Kansas State. The two losses for the Tigers come on the road at Nebraska and at Texas Tech which are two of the roughest venues to play at in the country. This team has flown under the radar all season and not many people have heard anything about them this season other than their one upset win over OU. Lets look further into the numbers on them…

#22 West Virginia (9-3) vs. North Carolina State (8-4)
Champs Sports Bowl (ORLANDO, FL) 6:30pm ESPN
After a nice couple of days off due to the holidays we are back with some excellent games on Tuesday night. The first of the two games on Tuesday is between the Mountaineers of West Virginia and the Wolfpack of North Carolina State. WVU has had a very solid season but did not get up for a few in conference games which cost them a chance at a BCS bowl bid. This team has the second best defense in the country behind TCU (who hasn’t played anyone with a pulse outside of San Diego State but we’ll get into that another day). The Mountaineers have kept several high scoring offenses in check this season and have hit stride late in the season as they have won their last 4 games. On the other side, NC State comes in as a team who has struggled a little bit in true road games this season (3-3 on the year). They had some very nice wins over Florida State, UCF, Georgia Tech, Boston College and North Carolina who are all bowl teams this season. The defense of NCST has been rather suspect at times this season so lets take a look at that…
